The hilarious sequel to the smokin’ hot New York Times best seller, perfect for story time

News alert! It has just been discovered that there are NO MORE TACOS left anywhere in the world. This is a huge problem because, as you know, dragons love tacos. If only there was a way for the dragons to travel back in time, to before tacos went extinct. Then they could grab lots of tacos and bring them back! It’s the perfect plan, as long as there’s no spicy salsa. You remember what happened last time . . .

The award-winning creators of Robo-Sauce and Secret Pizza Party return with a gut-bustingly hilarious companion to the bestselling phenomenon Dragons Love Tacos.

From School Library Journal

PreS-Gr 1—The kid and his taco-loving dragon friends are back, and there''s a crisis. There are no tacos left in the world. "None. Nada. Nil." Circumstances require use of the time machine to go back to a party for a handful of tacos to plant and grow into trees. However, spicy salsa messes things up again, with journeys back to wrong time periods, including when dragons loved diapers and when tacos loved dragons. Eventually heading home, the kid watches in disbelief as the dragons lose their resolve and gobble down ALL the tacos…except one. He plants a taco tree and the world is saved from disaster. Created with watercolor, gouache, color pencil, and digital elements, the images are comical, especially the scenes of spicy salsa fire breath and its aftermath. Deadpan statements such as "Oh boy, not again" and "Oh, come on" reinforce the humor. VERDICT Kids who can''t get enough dragons or tacos will be won over by this humorous tale. A silly addition for old fans and new readers alike.—Gaye Hinchliff, King County Library System, WA

Review

"As Rubin puts it, ''dragons love diapers. I mean, tacos. Dragons love tacos. / Heck, everyone loves tacos.'' Most young readers, even those in diapers, would agree." — Kirkus Reviews

"This sequel’s dialed-up energy and absurdity remain a tasty—and very funny—combination." — Publishers Weekly

"This zany companion promises to be as gut-bustingly ridiculous and yes-I''ll-gladly-read-it-again-and-again entertaining as the first." — PopSugar

I was one of the people who recieved an email this book was coming out and preordered it. My kid loves Dragons Loves Tacos and my husband and I do too. It''s one of the few books we don''t get tired of reading. This one is a flop. It''s like the writers had a commitment to make another book and forgot about it until the day before their deadline. The art is awful. Did someone else illustrate it? Did we switch hands to mix it up a bit? My four year old points out the "wonky dog" every time this book accidently gets picked for bedtime. In addition, the story is no good. It doesn''t feel like the other book in any way. Time travel could have been a great idea (although still not the same feel) but it was not executed well. This is yet another sequel that shouldn''t have happened. Super bummed.

My kids (and I) absolutely ADORED Dragons Love Tacos, so we pre-ordered the sequel. Boy, was it a bust. In the sequel, they summon a time machine to go back to Book 1. Many of the same illustrations, same jokes. My 3yo thinks it''s the same book. My 5yo chuckled at the line about the diapers, but she didn''t understand the concept of time travel -- and she wondered why the pictures were the same. It feels like this was an attempt to make money, and that''s it. Overall, this is a truly disappointing sequel lacking the creativity and spunk that made the first one so spectacular. It kills me that this extremely talented children''s book author/illustrator team would publish this garbage -- and that the people around them would tell them that''s it''s ok.

I''m a big fan of the original Dragons Love Tacos! It''s a great read for kids in that it''s quick and engaging, naturally I thought the sequel would be more of the same.

Personally I thought the creative team phoned it in on this one, the illustrations are clearly not as detailed as its predecessor, instead it seems Daniel Salmieri went for more of a "crayon look" that comes across as much less refined. The Author also didn''t seem interested in working too hard on the story, the sequel seems to recycle the good parts of the original and then sort of sputter about for a few pages.

Children''s books are harder to make than they look, and it looks like this creative team put this together over the weekend. I''m sure kids will find it entertaining, but as an adult reading this to his kid, I feel like it''s fair to ask for more.

Really, the art looks like he drew it in 5 minutes. We were not impressed. Our boys (ages 4 and 5) still ask for the original over this new one. But the last page is pretty neat ... I spy Beyonce, Khaleesi Mother of Dragons, Patrick Ewing, etc etc. And when my hubby read it in a very stero-typed Mexican accent, it gets MUCH BETTER :) HAHAHA!

I agree with many reviewers that this book is a recycled version of the first one. Plus, it''s hard to explain time-travel to a 4-year-old. I much prefer the original story. However, my kids (ages 2 and 4) LOVE this book. They will pick it over the first one almost every time. They think the diapers and the "tacos love dragons" pages are hilarious. They also love the last page, although the pictures include multiple cultural references that they don''t understand. So, who am I to question a book that my kids love so much?

The first one is still my (and my daughters favourite) story wise. She thinks the diaper part is HISTERICAL. I kind of wish there were more pages of this dysfonctionnel machine hehe. I’m glad they wrote a second one anyways.
